Fusion is an innovative model from OpenRouter that implements a multi-model deliberation architecture. Instead of relying on a single model, it activates a panel of expert models (specific models listed by OpenRouter) that each analyze the prompt with web search and web fetch capabilities enabled. These models work in parallel, and their outputs are combined to produce a final answer. This approach aims to leverage the strengths of multiple models while mitigating individual weaknesses. Fusion supports up to 1,000,000 tokens of context, making it suitable for long-form tasks. It is currently free to use and accepts and outputs text only. The technology represents a shift towards ensemble methods in production AI systems, potentially improving factuality and robustness through cross-model validation and web-backed reasoning.
